Responsibilities

The Store Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a retail store location including: sales, operations, customer experience, expense management, payroll/timecards, budgets, employee relations, merchandising and inventory management.  Responsible for being engaged and engaging employees in Sleep Number’s vision “to become the world’s most beloved brand by delivering an unparalleled sleep experience.”

Primary Responsibilities

  • Meet and exceed sales and KPI goals for assigned store on a consistent basis; ensure a world class customer experience
  • Directly supervise, train and develop the store’s Sales Professionals; assure compliance by all employees on company policies and procedures
  • Network, recruit, hire and on-board qualified staff of Sales Professionals
  • Communicate performance standards to all employees and conduct regular performance management in accordance with company policy
  • Facilitate resolution to employee performance or behavior concerns through coaching and/or corrective action; partner with Multi-Store Leader and/or Human Capital Business Partner as necessary
  • Program compliance, certification and training of Sales Professionals in assigned store; prepare and lead Store Training Meetings
  • Achievement of all financial and operational objectives with regards to expense control, loss prevention, audits/checklists and reports; responsible for controlling expenses to remain within budget guidelines
  • Event planning, tracking and execution to drive store leads and build brand awareness; build and manage relationships with community/sales partners (i.e. mall management, local medical professionals, etc.)
  • Responsible for store scheduling and approval of payroll
  • Ensure all display and demonstration models, as well as store, are kept clean and in working condition
  • Lead by example by adhering to all company policies and the standards set forth in the Code of Business Conduct
  • Comply with and enforce all safety rules, regulations and training; maintain a safe workplace
  • May perform other job-related duties as assigned

Position Requirements 

Experience / Education:

  • 3+ years of proven sales management or team leadership experience with a track record of meeting and exceeding goals, preferably in a high-end/specialty environment
  • Minimum H.S. diploma or equivalent required; additional education and training preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proven managerial, leadership and problem solving skills; strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated selling skills (individual contributor); strong preference for sales experience in a pay for performance environment or high-end/specialty environment
  • Ability to provide high levels of customer satisfaction by providing an individualized WOW experience with each and every customer
  • Prior success recruiting, training, engaging and retaining top talent
  • Ability to interpret and analyze individual and/or store performance reports and set action plans for improvement, as appropriate
  • Committed to learning, continuous improvement and leading by example; able to lead effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented work environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects successfully from design through implementation; detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Ability to be agile; readily adapt to and lead through change
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and build strong work relationships / team
  • Adept at using technology required for store operations (e.g., POS systems) and sales presentations (e.g., interactive demonstrations, iPad, apps); ability to communicate technical product knowledge effectively to customers and employees
  • Motivated by a pay-for-performance compensation plan
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to demonstrate English language proficiency; second language skills encouraged

Working Conditions (if applicable)

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule dictated by business needs; typical retail hours to include

evenings, weekends and holidays averaging 45 hours per week

  • Reliable transportation to / from work, in accordance with your schedule
  • A commitment to professional appearance and attitude; willingness to represent the brand with integrity at all times
  • Ability to stand/walk up to 75% of a shift
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and lift up to 36 pounds occasionally
  • Occasional bending, squatting, kneeling and overhead reaching
  • Occasional climbing of a 10 ft. ladder for retrieving boxes and materials up to 30 pounds
