Position Purpose 

You will serve as a technical expert focused on engineering the next generation of applications at Sleep Number. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. The ideal candidate will have a passion for full lifecycle development, specifically for automating manual testing in all testing phases. The candidate will help promote modern testing automation approaches and work with other software engineers to automate Sleep Number testing procedures. You will be able to work in an entrepreneurial environment, and partner closely with a team of technologists and product managers to develop innovative solutions and tools with a “customer first” mindset. This role is open to a remote worker, otherwise will reside at our Headquarters location in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical expert leading the design, delivery, and support of applications with an agile mindset
  • Establish and provide technical leadership for the testing automation capability on supply chain applications
  • Provide hands on development and training for unit, functional, and performance testing automation
  • Promote and train engineering team on testing automation frameworks to reduce and eliminate manual testing
  • Provide clear communications to stakeholders regarding outcomes, timelines and issues
  • Focus on enhancing the customer experience through applying User Centric design principles
  • Maintain a pulse on emerging technologies, experiment and drive innovations

Key Performance Indicators

  • Operational excellence of Sleep Number’s application platforms
  • Proven experiences in applying automation techniques and tools for a companies SDLC practices
  • Deliver/enhance applications with high quality and customer delight
  • Mentor/Coach team members to build software using industry leading practices

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields required
  • 5 to 7 years of software engineering experience with C#, Java or similar development platforms
  • Experience with test driven development and behavior driven development with tools such as selenium, cucumber or similar)
  • Ability to coach and mentor other software engineers on effective testing approaches and frameworks
  • Progressive software development experience in dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of Quality Management, including testing automation techniques, methodologies, processes, tools, artifacts, and measurements
  • Proficiency in eliciting and documenting requirements and performing quality assurance using AGILE best practices/standards
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment tools like Git, Jenkins, Maven
  • Experience with performance profiling and tuning of APIs
  • Proven background with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google
  • Demonstrated success in building and testing full stack responsive web applications, mobile and legacy ERP
  • Strong software engineering and development backgrounds in front end or back end development
  • Experience in Retail, Commerce is preferable

  • Creative problem solver, with strong analytical skills
  • Collaborative aptitude and experience working in a fast paced, ever-evolving environment
  • Technical leadership experience on medium and large-scale initiatives is desired
  • Experience working with agile/scrum methodology required
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across a variety of audiences, both technical and nontechnical

Working Conditions

  • Flexible availability required – business needs may require work during non-core business hours
  • Typical office environment, requiring at least 8 hours standing or sitting
