Senior Manager, Demand Planning

Job Location Minneapolis, Minnesota

Position Purpose: 

The Sr. Manager, Demand Planning is responsible for the Demand Planning processes and the SIOP process for all of Sleep Number.  Responsibilities include collaborating with the cross functional team, building a statistical forecasting process, and driving forecast accuracy for the company.   This role is for an experienced candidate with a passion for Demand Planning, continuous improvement, Supply Chain Management and has experience interfacing with commercial and marketing inputs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  •  Advancement, management and translation of the SIOP forecast to the entire Supply Chain to drive efficient and effective procurement, production and capacity planning
  • Manage the translation of weekly and monthly demand forecast to create accurate and actionable weekly/monthly/annual production and procurement forecasts
  • Ensuring a delivery forecast by market level is utilized in the system over the planning horizon of 18 months to ensure high customer service levels
  • Leading the monthly SIOP process with cross functional partners
  • Leads data inputs, presentation and KPIs for monthly Executive SIOP meetings
  • Managing a Demand Planning Analyst and ensure maintenance of Anaplan (statistical forecasting tool)
  • Planning to balance total costs of supply chain including transportation, expediting, owned inventory and warehousing expenses while meeting customer demand
  • Support new product development initiatives by scenario planning potential launch windows with our supply base
  • Continuous Process Improvements:
    • Evaluate existing processes for continual improvement
    • Change management for future state capabilities
    • Advancements of efficiency and effectiveness with Anaplan
  • Lead end to end process of SIOP to assess demand/supply gaps; includes aligned forecast with wholesale/retail partners and execution plan
  • Drive improving forecasting tools development and execution
  • Leads measurement of forecast accuracy and identify the cause of variations in order to drive continuous improvement in forecasting and inventory management
  • Leads RCCP effort across the Supply Chain on readiness (Supplier, MFG, Logistics, Home Delivery) to support MSEs and product launches; including risk assessment to organization on customer delivery, material availability and obsolescence
  • Drive clear signal in Oracle/r12 Advanced Supply Chain Planning system to effectively leverage system for Plant material procurement, production and finished good inventory into distribution/assembly locations
  • Develop meaningful KPIs -> demonstrate accountability, risk, on-track
  • Forecast Accuracy development -> actionable
  • Partner with Supply Planning and Sourcing managers on Supplier Forecast improvements

Key Performance Indicators:

  • % Forecast Accuracy
  • Forecast Bias
  • Inventory turnover
  • Stock-outs – occurrence and overall effect on business and customer
  • Total supply chain costs:  owned inventory, freight and warehousing
  • Internal inventory obsolescence

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Mathematics or Finance required
  • 8 years of Supply Chain planning, material planning or production scheduling experience required; with 3 years demand planning experience
  • Experience using statistical forecasting technology required
  • Oracle R12 experience, ASCP preferred

  • Must be able to partner cross functionally
  • Must be oriented for continuous improvement
  • Expertise in effective communication to various audiences, including Executive Leadership
  • Well-developed and mature EQ (emotional intelligence)
  • Ability to train and mentor team members
  • Working knowledge of all MS Office programs

Working Conditions (if applicable):

  • Normal physical exertion and office environment
  • Ability to work overtime/weekends
  • Minimal travel
