National Sales Trainer


Position Purpose 

The National Trainer is a key partner in driving sales for assigned area through training and coaching Sleep Number Brand Ambassadors on product knowledge, the sales process and customer experience.  The National Trainer is a customer advocate who trains and inspires sales teams and their leaders to deliver aspirational, innovative, individualized and unparalleled Sleep Number experiences. The position directly impacts Net Promoter System, sales, and Insider performances.   This position can be located anywhere near a major airport.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with Multi-Store Leaders to set field and virtual training goals
  • Develop and deliver impactful in-field and virtual training sessions; create and analyze post-training report and effectiveness
  • Convey boldness that instills buy-in and confidence in our sales process, Selling by Numbers, and individualized customer experience standards
  • Help Multi-Store Leaders and Store Managers readily adapt to short-term and long-term adjustments and change
  • Inspire sales teams to have fun and take pride in sales training and development training paths, tools and customer experience programs
  • Effectively analyze and interpret information and take a fact-based approach through prescribed 4-step planning and implementation process (Situation-Givens-Brainstorm-Actions) 
  • Seek win-win solutions and use challenging sales training and development assignments to maximize individual performance and development

Key Performance Indicators

  • Net Promoter System scores and close the loop performance
  • Hidden Helper Selling by Numbers sales experience scores
  • Sales Revenue, Conversion, Bedding Attachments, IndivdiualFitSM and FlexFitTM usage, Engagement, Retention, Comparable Profit
  • Maintain pre-planned training schedule and agenda
  • All tasks completed within time and monetary budgets

Position Requirements 

  • Four year BA or BS degree preferred
  • 3-5 years retail or commission sales background, sales and management preferred
  • Proficient at Individualized Customer Experience Selling
  • Proven record of training and coaching/development success
  • Training/Facilitating group delivery, virtual delivery, public speaking
  • On-Camera Experience (samples preferred)
  • Business Writing Experience (samples preferred)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong communication skills including written, spoken and multi-media
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships; ability to build trust with sales partners and gain buy-in to take accountable action 
  • Professionally develop and propose new ideas and challenge the status quo to improve training success; actively contribute mild to wild ideas during brainstorming sessions
  • Working knowledge of training and change methodology
  • Ability work independently in the field or home based office; ability to independently manage travel, including calendar, booking travel and expense management
  • Models initiative/drive and holds self and others accountable for leveraging Sales Training and Development tools to deliver unparalleled customer experiences.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment
  • Ability to quickly assess priorities, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to perform needs analysis; create, deliver and prescribe training solutions
  • Ability to work well under pressure and effectively manage stress
  • Computer skills preferred; Microsoft Office Suite, virtual meeting tools, Lead Management and Learning Management Systems

Working Conditions

  • Available to work Saturday End-of-Month, Sunday Store Training Meetings, and Holiday blackout periods per direction from the Director of Sales Training - Direction will be given prior to preparation of your monthly travel and store visit calendar  
  • Travel 75% - 80% of time to facilitate in-field sales training and development programs
