Manager, Product Development

Job Location Minneapolis, Minnesota

Position Purpose: 

The Product Development Manager is responsible for the ownership for the revenue and profitability growth within a product category at Sleep Number. This role will focus on fixed and adjustable bases and the cross-functional interface for product changes and new products. The Product Development Manager is the day to day leader for the category and represents the voice of the customer within the company.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Development and management of new product pipeline, including VOC, business case development & justification, needs requirement definition and product launch
  • Acting as day to day leader for product marketing support functions for assigned product lines
  • Serve as the cross-functional interface to the organization on inquiries related to product features & functionality, support, etc.
  • Supporting engineering and customer project implementations including product specifications, customer requests, and required documentation
  • Working with Brand Marketing organization to develop required customer presentations, sales literature or other tools & collateral required
  • Participate in industry tradeshows and other customer or channel marketing events
  • Assisting engineering, manufacturing and sales in attainment of annual cost reductions through idea generation, market research & facilitating customer product transitions
  • Perform other market, customer, competitor or product research as required

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Product unit & revenue growth for within the business
  • Margin expansion and maximizing margin dollars through pricing, cost reductions, and/or organizational efficiencies
  • Positive feedback with a peer group and Sr. Leadership

Position Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a focus in marketing or engineering preferred. MBA a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience in marketing, product management, engineering, or technical sales

  • Has a data-driven common-sense approach to execution; able to find & manipulate complex data with the ability to dissect opportunities
  • Able to work & think independently, meet tight deadlines, mobilize resources and determine key stakeholders quickly
  • Decisive, creative, high energy and ability to energize others
  • Excellent communication, presentation, problem solving, and interpersonal communication skills, particularly able to deliver concise conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to translate complex marketing concepts to business partners and clearly articulate benefits and results.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office
