Associate Manager, Product Development

Job Location Minneapolis, Minnesota

Position Purpose:

The Associate Product Development Manager is responsible for supporting the growth and profitability of the Sleep Number Product Line-up which includes the Mattresses, FlexFit™, and consumer electronic technologies such as our proprietary SleepIQ™ technology. This role supports the Product Development Manager, to support the current product line-up and deliver the product roadmap and by leading the cross-functional development of new products from concept to launch.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the Product Development Manager for Mattress projects
  • Lead development and commercialization of small to intermediate level project teams to deliver defined consumer benefits, project scope, schedule, and resource plans.
  • Maintain master program schedule and provide reporting of key program metrics by working with multiple Product Development Managers.
  • Coordinate deployment of prototypes, collect feedback, support testers, and analyze consumer insight to ensure products are developed with appropriate levels of consumer input.
  • Manage communication to cross-functional groups regarding on-going product improvements
  • Actively resolve any open issues with new products coming to market, working cross functionally with business and supply partners
  • Provide reporting to Product Development Manager on Project schedule tasks and milestone status with timing/resource risks identified. Create reports and presentations where required.
  • Emotional Intelligence, passion for customer advocacy, desire to become a subject matter expert on the products released
  • Perform analysis and evaluation of options, alternatives of product development paths
  • Understand cross-functional business processes and business systems including the Engineering Change Order process and stakeholders’ needs
  • Understand trends in the industry and with the competition
  • Understand in-market needs of new products and ensure products and systems are developed in support of in-market goals
  • Other tasks as assigned

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Product deployment testing and results on-time and on-budget.
  • Program master schedule maintained along with key metrics
  • Timely execution of assigned tasks with quality results
  • Assigned (support or lead) project(s) deliver consumer benefits, scope, schedule, and resource plans
  • Advanced understanding of product line-up and competition

 Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • PMP or Project management knowledge preferred
  • 2-4 years’ experience; Product/Project management, product development experiences are ideal
  • Experience leading cross-functional project teams
  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically in a high energy fast paced environment.
  • Advanced interpersonal, influencing, and communication (written and verbal) skills

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • PC / Technical Aptitudes to communicate in an engineering environment
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Project and reporting
  • Proficient in standard Microsoft Office applications like Project, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint
  • Communicates clearly, proactively, and concisely
  • Ability to work collectively with internal and external teams.
  • Tactical Execution - ensures tools are effective and information is accurate and complete; makes preparations and leverages resources to effectively manage the project controls of complex processes
  • Project Management –applies project controls to projects as directed on assigned projects; demonstrated experience with formal project management such that multiple small or medium projects with moderate complexity are managed to meet objectives, as assigned.

Working Conditions (if applicable):

  • Position located at Minneapolis, MN headquarters
  • Need to be onsite to perform job duties
  • Ability to travel 5-10%
